February 8, 2010: Reading the health plan comparison charts

The health plan comparison charts are very, very important to use when you're ready to choose a health plan. We want to make sure you understand them completely.

The first thing you need to know is that every health plan has the same Medicaid services. But each plan may have different "extras." Extras may be bonuses for your family, so be sure to look for them. Here are some other things to think about:

Do you want to be able to use the same hospital that you go to now? If so, check to see which health plans the hospital works with.

Are there specialists, counselors, or special services that you and your children use now? For example, you or someone in your family may be getting pregnancy care, or mental health services, or physical therapy. If so, check to see if you can use the same providers and get the same services in the health plan you're thinking about choosing.
